Animals in captivity are lonely you can tell if you look in their eyes.

It is only boredom that makes any animal pay any heed

to humans visiting a zoo. And only their spirituality

keeps them from replacing passivity with fight or flight.

This gorgeous baggy bottomed big brown bear performs

for the camera not because it has to but because

somewhere in its psyche it truly believes that someday

someone or something will come and take it away from all of this.
